Without sounding too biased, we think Canada is one of the best places in the world for an adventure! You’ll be treated to some of the most scenic landscapes and unique experiences if you visit our gorgeous country, but where to start?
With so many things to see and do, it can be difficult to pick just a few, so we’ve put together a list of the best adventures throughout Canada.
Sleep under the stars in a tipi in the Rockies
If you follow our blog regularly, then you may have read about our recent adventure in Kananaskis Country. Our highlight was sleeping under the stars in a tipi at Sundance Lodges, located in the Canadian Rockies. If you’re the kind of person who likes to feel at one with nature and wants to see the night sky in all of its uninterrupted glory, this is the Canadian adventure for you.
Canoe the lakes of Wells Gray Provincial Park
The One Thing series by Ben Groundwater on 1Cover says the one thing you should do is visit Canada in the summer. A lot of people think of Canada as a winter place, but it’s not just about the snow. If you visit in the summer, one of the best things to do is go on a multi-day canoe trip along the jaw-dropping lakes of Wells Gray Provincial Park in British Columbia.
Watch the killer whales on the West coast
If you do visit Canada in the summer, you’ll also get a better chance to spot the legendary killer whales along the West coast. Around August, when thousands of salmon swim along the coast, plenty of hungry orcas can be found not far behind. If you head to the pebbly beach of Robson Bight then you may also see these magnificent beasts rubbing their bellies on the pebbles – it’s thought that this is the only place in the world they do it!
Try taking on the Trans Canada Trail
Okay, so perhaps not the whole Trans Canada trail, as it’s around 21,500km long (half as long as the world is round). However, you can pick pretty much any spot on the Trans Canada Trail to hike or cycle. If you want to see more in a shorter space of time, you could also jump on the back of a horse and gallop across the trail.
Witness one of the greatest storms on Vancouver Island
Over the winter, the West coast of Vancouver Island plays host to some of the most awe-inspiring storms in the world. As there’s nothing but the Pacific Ocean in between Japan and Vancouver Island, these storms build up some impressive power and high winds. You can even take a storm-watching tour from Tofino if you want to catch the best bits.
Zipline over the Whistler wilderness
The wilderness of Whistler is truly a sight to behold, but it’s even better from up high. There are several zipline tours that will take you 70m above ground, as you soar across the rainforest canopy attached to a harness. This is perfect for adrenaline-seekers, but there are also walkways and suspension bridges if you’d prefer to keep your feet on the ground.
With so many things to see and do in Canada, it was hard to pick just six adventures! We think these are definitely some of the best, however.
