We have always thought that butterflies are mesmerizing and majestic insects. When we noticed there was the Butterfly Gardens in Victoria, we wondered if it was too good to be true. Could we seriously experience what it was like to walk around with butterflies fluttering all around us? It seemed too good to be true. Lucky for us, it wasn’t.
Their growth process, all the fancy colours, their elegance as they flutter through the sky. What isn’t there to love about butterflies? Thousands of butterflies, and up to 70 different species, roam free in their tropical gardens. The gardens are also home to orchids and carnivorous plants, poison dart frogs, tropical fish, geckos, flamingos, tortoises, and free-flying tropical birds.
We spent over an hour wandering around the garden, having a magical time. The girls even watched the butterflies with amazement. The Blue Morphos were spectacular and a favourite. Catching them for a photo though was hard work! If we had more time to spare, we definitely could have wandered around even longer.
We loved the calming atmosphere. It was also neat to watch the “nursery window”, where you can see butterflies emerge from their chrysalis.
Looking at the photos, we are still left speechless. It was pure magic. We were completely mesmerized by butterflies at Victoria Butterfly Gardens.
Take a look at our favourite photos from the experience:
Before entering the butterfly garden, you’ll also get to check out a small display of Insects. It isn’t hands-on, but you can definitely learn a few things. You’ll be surprised with some bugs that exist! We found the leaf insects fascinating as well as the Mantis’.
Victoria’s Butterfly Garden is conveniently located just five minutes from the world-famous Butchart Gardens. Both are experiences you won’t want to miss!
Know before you go: It is really hot and stuffy in the gardens; very tropical weather. If you have difficulty breathing, this may not be an experience for you.
