We were in Florida in January for me to push my limits by completing the Dopey Challenge at Disney World. I knew after all that hard work during training the last year and the Dopey itself, that I would want some relaxation. So, we opted to extend our vacation another week for some time on the beach. We were blessed with great weather in January and though it may be a little ‘cold’ for the locals, for us it was all sunshine and summertime vibes.
We stayed at The Alexander – All Suite Oceanfront Resort and had a simple, but comfortable, stay. They were in the middle of some renovations, as most hotels along the beach visibly were, but it did not negatively impact our stay. There was still a pool for us to enjoy and a comfortable and spacious suite to sleep in. The only time we knew we were in a construction zone is when we noticed one of the pools was closed and the hallway route to the pool. They had a poster up in the hallway to the pool with their renovation plans and their plan did look fantastic.
We were surprised how many Man-O-War jellyfish were washed up on the shore each morning. As you’ll notice in the photos below, they are pretty blue balloons with nasty stinging tentacles. I was fascinated by their details but never get too close because you can still get stung when they are on shore. Their tentacles can extend up to 30 feet!
It was also neat to see the vibrancy of South Beach’s Ocean Drive with all the hotels and restaurants lit up at night.
Plenty of beach time was just what my body had ordered after a year of having my life consumed by intense workouts and training runs for Dopey 2019.
Take a look at our time along Miami Beach and Miami’s South Beach:

We were there the night of the Blood Moon — that is the super moon between the palm trees blowing in the wind.
