We have teamed up once again with Radisson, this time to celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary and to get you excited to explore more of Canada with its myriad of adventure options though its fabulous cities, parks and culinary treats. Remember too, that this year Canada’s national parks are free to celebrate Canada’s 150th. Have you requested your free pass yet?
We made a commitment this year to start exploring more of Canada.
We have always been quick to pack our bags and hop on a plane to a destination as far as our budget will allow, but with newborn baby Jacob just joining our family, Canada’s 150th is a great time to discover some more of our own backyard, while taking some time to stay in our comfort zone as we adjust to a family of five.
1. Plane Spotting Heaven: Watching Planes Land In Vancouver At Flight Path Park
Get the excitement of air travel by watching planes land and take off from YVR airport, one of the busiest airports in the country. If you have some extra time when you’re at or near the airport, take some time out to enjoy one of the best spots in the region to watch planes land and take off. The Radisson Vancouver Airport hotel is also only 1km from this attraction.
2. Whale Watching in British Columbia
There are many options to start your whale watching excursion in British Columbia. A couple of the popular options are to depart from downtown Vancouver, or from Victoria. Seeing the killer whales in their natural environment is an incredible experience and they are known to put on quite the show. We have been whale watching a couple times already and are itching to go again soon!
3. Drive the Canadian Rockies
Last summer our big adventure was to finally explore the Canadian Rockies. It was one of the most beautiful drives we have done, with our breath being taken away around every corner. We couldn’t believe how long we took to get out and explore the Canadian Rockies. They are definitely a sight to not be missed!
4. Wildlife Spotting in Canada
Canada is a great place to watch some wildlife. We ran into this Elk in Alberta’s Jasper National Park. Look at those absolutely massive antlers. Wildlife watching requires a lot of enthusiasm, love for living things and patience. It leaves you with incredible memories, in awe of the world around you and with a better understanding of the natual world. Next, we would love to do a bear viewing tour up in one of our favourite places in British Columbia, the beautiful Whistler, BC.
5. Catch A Ball Game – Toronto
We are big sports fans. While we love exploring the natural world, when we have the opportunity, we love to catch a ball game or a hockey game. Growing up I was a huge tomboy and seeing a Jays game at the “Skydome” was a dream. Actually getting to tour the stadium (now Rogers Centre) and catch a game was a dream! Toronto has a few great options with Radisson while you explore the great city!
6. Witnessing The Power Of Niagara Falls
The Niagara Falls is a world-famous set of three large waterfalls on the Niagara River. The American and Horseshoe falls are best seen from the Canadian side of the river, making it on of the greatest tourist attractions, bringing millions of tourists every year. At night the falls are lit up and look spectacular with the rainbow of colours. The Radisson Fallsview in Niagara has stunning views of the falls, too!
7. Explore the natural world in Whistler, BC
One of our favourite getaways, that also happens to just be a couple hours from home and Vancouver, is the resort town of Whistler, BC. Year round you’ll never get bored of outdoor activities; there are always plenty to choose from. From bungee jumping to hitting the slopes in winter, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy.
8. Beautiful Alberta Lakes
We had the chance to visit both Lake Louise in Banff National Park and Morraine Lake in Jasper National Park. Both offered mesmerizing mountain views and glimmering water. You’ll be left in awe, especially when you realize that you are indeed still in Canada.
9. BC’s Okanagan
Stunning vistas and landscapes greet you at every corner as you drive from Vancouver to the Okanagan. As you find yourself driving along Okanagan Lake, your jaw is sure to drop as you feel like you’re driving beside a painting; it is that beautiful! The natural landscape of the Okanagan boasts mountains, valleys and desert.
A few Canadian destinations that are high up on our wish list:
10. Explore Vancouver Island
Other than visiting Victoria in the past, we have never ventured into Vancouver Island. We always hear so much about the stunning views and particularly how awesome Tofino is, so come August we will be finding out for ourselves what all the fuss is about. We can’t wait to feel the sand between our toes!
11. Explore the world of Dinosaurs in Drumheller, Alberta
Being huge dinosaur enthusiasts, the next time we get to Alberta, we will be stopping in Drumheller to explore the badlands. It would be super fun to rewind and ‘experience’ how life would be if dinosaurs existed today. After all, Drumheller is said to be the “dinosaur capital of the world’.
12. Explore the Maritime Provinces
The thought of exploring the Maritime Provinces is absolutely enchanting. The islands that make up the Maritimes: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island are some of the most picturesque towns in Canada, dominated by sea, sandy beaches and towering cliffs. Every time we see or hear more about the Maritimes, it sure sends our wanderlust into overdrive!
13. Discovering Everything Churchill
Churchill is known as the polar bear capital of the world and is also known as a beluga whale watching hotspot and a great place to experience the northern lights. We can only imagine how incredible the Churchill experience would be and it still sits near the top of our wishlist.
14.Discover The North
We would love to step outside of the mainstream North America and experience the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. We would love to be able to experience the Aboriginal cultures and ethereal landscapes. We would also love to witness the Northern Lights!
15. Ottawa
We have yet to visit Canada’s capital, and this would be a special year to be able to do that. Could you imagine celebrating Canada’s 150th in Ottawa? The celebrations are sure to be out of this world!
