As a celebration to kick off summer, my twin sister and I took a weekend away to go glamping in Olympia, WA. I had been glamping before on the Sunshine Coast in a Geodesic Dome , and was excited to give it a go again in a fancy safari theme tent while glamping At Millersylvania State Park.
Millersylvania State Park was gorgeous, with the perfect lake for a paddle. The park was super family-friendly, with a ton of kids ripping around on their bikes. For me, it was a weekend away from the kids, but I would consider taking the kids camping there because of the fantastic atmosphere. The glamping site even came with bikes for us to use — so I was able to feel like a kid again, exploring on bike, with not a care in the world.
It was overcast that weekend, but the sky always managed to clear by night so we could get a great view of the starry sky before going to sleep with all the creature comforts while in the middle of nature. There were a handful of glamping tents, but it was also a full-on camp ground with people tenting the old fashioned way, or in their RV.
It was a peaceful weekend, right before my twin sister and I took off on a road trip with my kids to go visit our older sister in Alberta. A perfect way to relax before all the long days and driving that was head of us. And, we lucked out that the fire bans in Washington had not been announced yet, so we got our proper campfire and first s’mores of the season.
I love camping because there is nothing better than being in nature. It is so good for the soul. I feel like it is a great way to reconnect with what really matters in life, while being able to enjoy the beauty and power that Mother Nature is. Every time I take a look around, I’m in awe of all the creation around me. It really is a beautiful thing.
Take a look at the photos below to see how pampered we were and the great experiences we had. They didn’t call it Pampered Wilderness for no reason!
