The Grand Canyon was breath-taking, and really in-describeable. We found ourselves staring in awe, really only being able to think “WOW!” The Grand Canyon really does remind you of the scale of life’s little issues. We didn’t have enough time to do any actual hiking, so we loved that we were able drive around, get out at our leisure and take in the effect of the gorgeous backdrop of the canyon at each viewpoint we stopped.
Our favorite viewpoint was Yavapai Point, where Debbie was able to sit along the ‘ledge’ and take in all the beauty without handrails blocking the view (though please note that the handrails are there for safety).
No picture could ever do the Grand Canyon justice, nor showcase the feelings you get when admiring the beauty.
Our tips for visiting the South Rim:
- Fill up your gas tank well before you hit the area. Gas is more expensive and there aren’t too many gas stations.
- There are a number of absolutely fantastic viewing areas along this road and these are not marked as special lookout ‘points’. Prepare yourself to be able to stop quickly for these views.
- The main areas that are hand-railed are pretty busy.
- Dress in layers, wear sunglasses and hat, sunscreen, and take a good camera. It was sunny when we went early March, but was pretty cold and windy.
- Allow at least a few hours to explore, if you are really only driving from viewpoint to viewpoint.

Have you ever visited the breath-taking Grand Canyon? What are your thoughts about your experience?
Disclaimer: Though some photos may not show the land below the “ledge”, Madison was definitely not taken anywhere that would have put her in harms way. There was plenty of land before there would even be a drop off into the canyon, though it is not noticeable in the photos with her.
