Van Dusen Gardens is located in the heart of Vancouver, and features a large plant collection divided into botanical and geographical themes. It has been open since 1975, so pretty much a decade before we were even born, but only Darcy had visited years ago when he was quite young. Every year we would say that we had to go see what all the fuss is about, but never made it there. So, this holiday, we picked a day, solidified the plans and finally followed through.
From December 1 to 31, Van Dusen Botanical Gardens is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with over 1 million lights, spanning over eight acres.
We were in awe as we wandered around the paths, admiring the Dancing Lights show on Livingstone Lake, enjoyed all the interactive areas such as the gazebo filled with fun musical instruments, the always fun poke-your-head-through photos, had a Christmas story read to us courtesy of the Vancouver Public Library, and giggled at the gnome performance. There was so much to do, we needed a good couple hours to take it all in.
Take a look at some of the fun and beautiful photos we walked away with:
The Christmas lights were incredible. Madison loved it, but so did we. We may need to make this a holiday tradition. The thought of the amount of time that must have gone into decorating the gardens completely blew our minds. Now we would also like to go for a visit in the summer. We would love to see what the grounds look like when it isn’t completely dark and covered in Christmas lights.
This was a perfect outing to get us into the Christmas spirit.
Have you ever visited the Van Dusen Botanical Gardens? What did you think?
