Traveling on our way to the Grand Canyon, we passed some big Flintstones characters and pulled in to see what this was all about.
Not very well up-kept, but interesting for sure, was a Flintstones “theme park” (and camp ground, apparently) where you could explore all the various aspects of Bedrock, surrounded by your favorite Flintstones characters. Though this may not be of interest to the youngest generation of rugrats, anyone nearing 30 years old, or above, will have an appreciation of the cartoon. Since we grew up watching the Flintstones, we figured it was worth a look.
There was only one other family there when we arrived, and it was obvious how up-kept it has been over the years. It was quite cool walking into each “house” and getting a feel for what it would be like to live the life of the Flintstones. But, all the attractions were dusty, dilapidated houses of Bedrock’s famous residents from a bygone era.
Kids may find it more fun than we did, though there did not appear to be very much to do there. It wasn’t the right “season” for their theatre, but even with the addition of that and a “train” type ride, there only seemed to be a half hour of entertainment, at best.
Built over 40 years ago during the Route 66 roadside attraction craze, this lonely concrete replica of a cartoon town has seen better days. It felt rather ghostly and made us wonder if there are ever more than the odd people dropping by.
