Breathe In The Wild In The Harrison River Valley

Last Updated on June 7, 2022

Our latest Harrison River Valley adventure found us focusing on ways to breathe in the wild of this gorgeous area of British Columbia.

We all need to feel connected to something larger than ourselves sometimes. For us, one of the best ways to do that is by spending time in nature. There is just something about being surrounded by trees, flowers, and fresh air that makes us feel more at peace. And when we take the time to really slow down and appreciate all the little details, we feel incredibly lucky and spoiled by the beauty of it all. It is like our own personal paradise and really is a wonderful feeling.

From exploring the waters by jet boat and kayak, experiencing an incredible four-course meal made of fresh and local ingredients, enjoying s’mores by the fire, golfing on a world-class course, and soaking in hot springs, we really felt surrounded by the beauty of nature and could feel our spirits lift.

Whether you are visiting the Harrison River Valley for the first time, or you are a resident looking for weekend inspiration, this is one of the many ways to experience the Harrison River Valley. This post focuses on exploring the area from a base in Harrison Hot Springs at The Lodge On Harrison Lake.

Our last visit to the Harrison River Valley had us using Harrison Mills as a home base during the winter off-season. During this visit, the Harrison River Valley was starting to gear up for a busy summer.

Rowena’s Inn On The River

Rowena’s Inn on the river is a colonial-themed inn that was built in the 1920s. The inn is located on the banks of the Harrison River, and it is infused with old-world charm. A few times a year, guests are invited to dine in the upper and lower drawing rooms for step-back in-time fireside dining.

We were able to enjoy charcuterie and wine in the Upper Drawing Room at Rowena’s Inn as we learned more about the new direction of Tourism Harrison and the Harrison River Valley through their Breathe In The Wild presentation. Rowena’s Inn is furnished with antique furniture, and the views are spectacular.

Rowena’s Inn is a part of the Sandpiper Resort, where we stayed in a luxury cabin during our last Harrison River Valley adventure.

Harrison River Boat Ride

Experience the natural beauty of the Harrison River on a scenic jet boat tour. With boats that are heated and covered, you can enjoy the journey no matter what the weather is like. As you weave down the river, you will be able to take in the stunning views while keeping an eye out for wildlife such as eagles, ospreys, herons, beavers, otters, and more.

We did not see any wildlife on our adventure, but on our personalized tour, we went from Harrison Hot Springs to our dinner at The Lodge On Harrison Lake.

This is a great way to see the area’s natural wonders up close and personal. It was so fun speeding through the Harrison River.

As you travel down the Harrison River, you will eventually reach the point where it meets the Fraser River. Seeing the two rivers come together is an amazing sight, as the crystal-clear water of the Harrison River mixes with the muddy water of the Fraser River. It is almost as if Mother Nature is fighting with herself. We saw a similar sight when we were sturgeon fishing, on the Fraser River and it is a neat contrast!

Guided Harrison River Kayaking Tour

Go for a refreshing kayaking experience on the beautiful and flowing waters of the Harrison River system. This five-hour kayaking trip will take you from the Harrison resort marina all way to its head, following alongside the shore.

This experience in nature will leave your heart full. You will view petroglyphs – ancient drawings covering everything from animals to humans, and some of the most gorgeous scenery. You finish your paddle at Kilby Provincial Park before loading up the kayaks for a ride back towards Harrison Hot springs. If you are staying at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort, it would be a perfect time to enjoy some restful relaxation in the hot springs after all the fun that was had along the shores.

When we first heard five-hour kayaking tour, I was curious about how strenuous of an experience it would be. However, it was honestly a relaxed paddle.  We slowed down at several points to enjoy the peacefulness of our surroundings.

We even stopped to view some spawning Sturgeon; something I did not expect to see! I have been fascinated by these river monsters since we went sturgeon fishing and caught (and released) a Sturgeon that was 8’4″ and an estimated 300 lbs. Reeling in a big one is no joke; it is HARD work!

We were thrilled by how welcoming the staff of Harrison Eco Tours were. They made me feel relaxed during my kayaking experience and provided an excellent tour experience during our jet boat ride to The Lodge On Harrison Lake for our dinner.

Golfing At Sandpiper Golf Course

Sandpiper Golf Course offers breathtaking views and challenging play for golfers of all skill levels. Just a short drive from Harrison Hot Springs, Sandpiper is situated on a gorgeous rolling terrain, with well-manicured fairways and pristine greens. The course features a variety of holes, including several elevation changes and water hazards. In addition, the clubhouse offers a  pro-shop.

There are a number of outstanding holes, but one of the best is the 486-yard, par 5 fifteenth, where the footprint of the legendary sasquatch guards the green.

Darcy has been wanting to golf at Sandpiper for years, so while I was on a kayaking tour, it was the perfect opportunity for him to experience the full course.

On our last visit to the Harrison River Valley, we also stayed at the Sandpiper Resort, in an incredible luxury cabin. If you are looking for a world-class golf course with accommodation, you will not want to miss this one. The luxurious cabin felt like home, and we did not want to leave.

Whether you are looking for a challenging round of golf or simply a scenic place to relax, Sandpiper Resort is sure to please.
