Hiking The Bodega Ridge Trail

One of our highlights of Galiano Island, in BC’s southern Gulf Islands, were the hiking trails. We loved the great viewpoints, variety of terrain and good trails. One of our favourite hikes was the Bodega Ridge Trail in Bodega Ridge Provincial Park.  The Bodega Ridge Hike is a 4km ridge rising 328 metres above sea level. It takes around 30 minutes through a forested area and along the cliff edge to reach the top of the ridge. At the top, you’re rewarded with phenomenal views of Trincomali Channel, the mountains of Vancouver Island and the Strait of Georgia.

It is possible to go to Galiano to hike this as a day trip, but we found that spending a couple of nights was the way to go. We were able to do a “major” hike each day, and were really able to take the time to soak it all in.

Be careful as you walk around the ridge. There are some drop offs, loose rocks and slippery slopes along the trail.

Take a look at the trail and gorgeous views along the Bodega Ridge Hike:

Even on a sunny summer day, the hike was not too hot. The trees gave such great shelter.

How to find the trailhead:

From the Sturdies Bay ferry terminal on Galiano, follow Porlier Pass Road for 19 kms. Once you pass Retreat Cove, turn right onto Cottage Way. You’ll drive up a road of switchbacks, and feel that you’re driving through a neighbourhood. Don’t worry, you are in the right place! You’ll eventually reach a dead end on Cottage Way. The trails start at the Bodega Ridge Nature Trail sign at the end of Cottage Way.
