Darcy grew up camping at Alouette Lake in beautiful British Columbia. This year we decided to give a camping trip a whirl with the Fettback side of the family — at that same lake he grew up camping at. As you have noticed, we love every opportunity to get our kids outdoors and camping is a great way to do just that. Though, I will admit that this time we had the comfort of a camper — I am 31 weeks pregnant after all! So, for us, it was more like glamping this time around, compared to all the tenting we did through Alberta last summer. Either way, the kids wake up with nature as their playground and not a tablet screen, so it is a win-win!
It was fun hearing all the memories that popped up for everyone through the camping trip. There was definitely a lot of fun family trips camping at Alouette Lake in Golden Ears Provincial Park throughout the years. This is now something we hope to keep making a priority each summer in different camping locations around BC. It was so fun to watch all the kids (of all ages — 2 years old to teenagers) having so much time together and to see their enjoyment as they played until they were too tired to play any more. My kids were actually so tired that they were asking to go to sleep at night— say what?!?
We had decent weather for camping this year. The day of arrival and the next day were sunny and warm; perfect weather for the lake. The second night we woke up to some intense rain and it ruined our lake day, but we were still able to spend time together enjoying each other’s company and card games. And, of course, the day we went home it was sunny and hot again. It has been a pretty mild summer in BC this year; I would rather a lot of heat!
Take a look at the family fun:
