During our California trip, we decided to check out the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament as it came highly recommended by some friends that were in California not long before our trip.

It was an evening with horses and knights; something that we thought we would enjoy more than we did. Perhaps it was because some of the scenes felt like they went on for too long.

The audience is divided into sections to root for their own teams of jousters/combatants and you cheer for your knight. The knights are excellently trained horseman and handle swords and battleaxes like professional warriors, battling for the title of King’s Champion. The producers do give it a definite feel of that day and time and the interactive elements with the audience were well done.

One of the actors kept walking up and down our section, picking on Darcy each time he passed. One time, he kissed my hand and the other, he knocked off Darcy’s crown. It added a little humor and left Darcy wondering what he was doing to get picked on. I, however, did not mind being treated like a princess.

We did feel that the horses looked healthy and well-treated. The outside and inside are charming, with the great detail of it adding to the experience.

The food was plentiful, but was not what we expected and was a bit sub-par. The food looks much better on their website.

Overall, it was a decent evening. After the night was over, we had the feeling that it would have been more enjoyable if we had kids with us. It is, however, one of those things you should try once!
