Mount Galiano Hike : Dreamy Gulf Island Views

Last Updated on June 15, 2021

Mount Galiano

Mount Galiano is Galiano’s highest point of land at 311 meters above sea level, providing arguably one of the best hikes on Galiano Island. The dreamy scenery atop the Mount Galiano trail included views of Mayne, North Pender, Prevost, and Salt Spring islands, the U.S. San Juan Islands, and the distant mainland Olympic Peninsula mountains. It felt like we could see for miles and miles; it is a view that will leave an impression to last us a lifetime. This is the trail that made us fall in love with Galiano island hiking.

Mount Galiano Trail

The path is well marked, so there is really no getting lost in this 6.8km (return) trail. The first part of the trail is an incline and the last half is pretty flat and easy. It took us 45 minutes to reach the top, stopping to enjoy some natural sights along the way. We were really impressed with how well-maintained and well-marked the trail was.

Sitting in the golden grass, we were also treated with some fantastic ferry spotting opportunities as the ferries carried their passengers in and out of Active Pass. We spent a glorious hour basking in the sunshine as we enjoyed the views, before taking our adventure down.

About Galiano Island

Galiano Island is just a short-hour ferry ride away from Vancouver, but the peace and tranquility of being surrounded by endless opportunities to be in the wilds, without the hordes of crowds, will breathe life into you in a powerful way. We spent a weekend exploring and hiking Galiano while having a fantastic home base at a Rustic Cabin In The Woods.
