Nairn Falls Hike In Pemberton

Last Updated on May 5, 2021

We were researching waterfalls we had not yet seen to stop at and stretch our legs at during our journey to go camping at Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park. Nairn Falls is just 20 minutes from Whistler, and is 5 minutes from Pemberton town center. If you camped there, it would be a great base camp to explore Whistler, Pemberton Valley or Garibaldi Provincial Park.

The falls are 60 m high and a short and easy 1.5 km hiking trail will take you to the viewpoint, where you can watch the water pour down the falls from a viewing platform. The trail does get steep and narrow in some parts with large drop-offs, so ensure kids are kept close by.

After the last few waterfalls we have seen recently, we did not feel overly impressed with this one and the mediocre view. We felt that the falls were not properly visible from the viewing platform, at any angle. It felt like all we could see were glimpses of it. The falls lacked that “magnificent” feeling I love when seeing waterfall magic.

The hike was very pretty along the rushing river, but the waterfall view was not as rewarding as we had hoped for. I’m sure the time of year (summer) could also be an influence on water flow.

Madison did note, however, that the waterfall reminded her of Splash Mountain at Disney, and that after it is safe to travel again, we must go. You know you have a disney loving family when… right?

If you’re looking for a waterfall that will impress, we would suggest taking the 45 minute drive (from Nairn Falls) to Alexander Falls in Whistler instead. The waterfall viewing platform is even right off the parking lot — just steps away from your car. It is effortless sightseeing at its best.

There were some steep drop offs. You do NOT want to go for a swim in that rushing river.
