But what really saved the hike? #BassProShopsPartner

The gear that came through when little legs got tired, and moods got wobbly:

👣 Supportive, grippy boots = zero complaints (from mom or kids).
🎒 A backpack that carried everything — snacks, sunscreen, layers, and my last shred of sanity.
🧡 Bear spray we didn’t use (thankfully), but gave me just enough courage when a twig snapped behind us.
☀️ Trail clothes that handled drizzle, snack smears, quick changes, and photo ops like champs.
🍫 Surprise snacks that turned hangry tears into trail giggles.
🔦 A headlamp that lit our way back when the trail took longer than we thought.
🩹 A first aid kit that patched us up and powered us forward.
🧼 A dry bag that keeps our camera gear and change of clothes bone dry when the rain rolls in.

This gear didn’t just show up.
It showed off.

Think Vancouver is beautiful? Just wait until you Think Vancouver is beautiful? Just wait until you see what the rest of BC is hiding. 😍

Here are 5 gorgeous places in British Columbia that aren’t Vancouver:

🏔 Yoho National Park
Towering waterfalls, glacier-fed lakes, and alpine trails that feel straight out of a fairytale. Emerald Lake, Takakkaw Falls, and the quieter but just-as-stunning Wapta Falls will make you wonder why this park isn’t even more famous.

🌄 Kootenay National Park
Tucked beside Banff but way less crowded. Think red rock canyons, turquoise rivers, steamy hot springs, and scenic drives where you’ll barely see another car.

🌊 Ucluelet
Tofino’s quieter, moodier cousin. Wild coastlines, endless waves, and the Wild Pacific Trail—one of the most breathtaking walks in BC. Bonus: prime storm-watching.

🌲 Golden Ears Provincial Park
An easy escape just outside the city, but it feels like the middle of nowhere. Misty forests, mountain peaks, and lakes that beg you to paddle, picnic, or plunge.

🏞 Chilliwack
Yes, it’s more than cornfields (though those are iconic too 🌽). With Lindeman Lake, Bridal Veil Falls, and the stunning Slesse Memorial Trail—which leads to alpine views and aviation history—it’s an underrated outdoor paradise.

Camping is one of the best ways to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life and reconnect with nature—but let’s be honest, it comes with a long to-do list. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Here are four simple hacks to make camping life a little easier:

▪️ Shaker bottle pancakes – Skip the mess and mix pancake batter and water in a shaker bottle. Shake and pour straight onto the pan. Add chocolate chips or berries for a fun twist.

▪️ DIY fire starters – Getting a campfire going can be tricky, especially with damp wood. Stuff dryer lint into empty toilet paper rolls for easy, reliable fire starters that burn long enough to get those flames going.

▪️ Pool noodle tent peg covers – Avoid stubbed toes and tripping hazards by slicing pool noodles and slipping them over tent pegs. They’re bright, soft, and a great way to protect little feet—and grown-up ones too.

▪️ Pre-crack eggs into a jar – Don’t risk a carton of cracked eggs in your cooler. Crack them into a jar before your trip and pour out what you need when it’s time to cook. No shells, less mess.

5 Must-See Waterfalls In Mount Rainier National Pa 5 Must-See Waterfalls In Mount Rainier National Park

📌 Save for later!

Mount Rainier National Park needs to be on your Washington State bucket list! It is home to some of the most stunning waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest.

Here are 5 must-see waterfalls located in Mount Rainier:

▪️CHRISTINE FALLS (Easy) - Christine Falls is a captivating and easily accessible waterfall. The lower falls, a true spectacle, are gracefully framed by the arching Christine Falls Bridge, adding a touch of history to this mesmerizing view (Quick walk from parking lot).

▪️NARADA FALLS (Easy)- Accessed via a brief, but frequently damp path, the most optimal vantage point is positioned beneath the road. A trail is accessible for descending to a lower point below the falls, though it tends to be wet and slippery, and is typically devoid of snow only by late May (0.2 miles out and back).

▪️MYRTLE FALLS (Easy) - This stunning location is renowned for being one of the park’s most captured scenes – It is an easy and mostly-paved path to the falls along the gorgeous Skyline Trail (1 mile return).

▪️CARTER FALLS (Moderate) - Carter Falls, partially concealed within the lush embrace of the Nisqually River Trail, offers a delightful escape on scorching days. Meandering through a sheltered old-growth forest alongside the tranquil Paradise River, this gem is a segment of the Wonderland Trail. Expect an uphill climb (2.4 miles out and back).

▪️MADCAP FALLS (Moderate) - The falls are unmarked, yet they can be discovered approximately 100 feet upstream from Carter Falls. A journey to Madcap and Carter Falls offers a picturesque and serene hiking experience.

✨Calling all tidepool explorers!✨ Know someon ✨Calling all tidepool explorers!✨

Know someone who’d love a starfish-spotting mission? 👉 Tag your adventure buddy!

Here are some of the best places near Vancouver to spot starfish (aka sea stars):

🌊 Crescent Beach – Two great areas:
• Near the pier at Blackie Spit
• The far side of East Beach (yep, the clothing-optional section!)

🌊 Belcarra Regional Park
• Picnic Area Beach – easy access
• Hike to Jug Island – extra effort, extra reward

🌊 Barnet Marine Park – It’s a starfish paradise under the pier! There are always so many sea stars clinging to the mussel-covered pilings.
👉 Tip: Park at the Takeda Drive East lot for the closest access.

🌊 Cates Park – Visit at low tide. Look around the rocky beach near the boat launch pier and check along the bottom of boulders.

🌊 Deep Cove – Head to the pier. If it’s not quite low tide, you can still see them in the water from above!

🌊 Whytecliff Park – One of the most popular marine sanctuaries in Metro Vancouver. When the tide is out, you can walk across to Whyte Islet and discover tidepools filled with sea stars, anemones, and more.

🌊 Lighthouse Park – Some of the rocky edges are great for spotting sea stars, but access can be more awkward here. Good footwear and caution are key!

🗓️ Best time for tide-pooling? April–September
📉 Best tides? When water levels drop below 1.5 meters. Negative tides are the best!

🔁 Tides change daily — check a tide table specific to your location (even close spots can differ!). You’ll usually get two high and two low tides each day.

⏳ Example: If low tide is at 1 PM, that’s when the water is at its lowest. The ebbing and rising cycle takes about 6 hours each.

🚫 Friendly reminder: Look, don’t touch. Starfish are incredibly sensitive, and even gentle handling can cause harm.

You’re right — my kids didn’t choose this tr You’re right — my kids didn’t choose this travel and adventure lifestyle that they were born into.

BUT… we guide them toward what’s good for them — and a childhood filled with passport stamps, outdoor adventures, trail dust, and global perspective? That’s a gift, not a burden.

I don’t expect others who didn’t choose this lifestyle (or have the same passion for travel that we do) to understand why we love it so much …

But to make it clear …

We are not dragging them anywhere. We’re showing them everywhere.
