7 things I stopped doing as a parent—and it made 7 things I stopped doing as a parent—and it made my kids confident travellers …

1. I stopped solving every problem – Missed trains, wrong turns, or ordering the wrong dish aren’t crises—they’re lessons in independence. Letting them help figure things out builds confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills.

2. I stopped carrying their stuff – Backpacks, souvenirs, snacks… I used to carry it all. Now they manage their own gear, learning responsibility and that they can handle more than they imagined.

3. I stopped overplanning every minute – I used to try to prevent meltdowns and schedule every stop. Leaving room for detours, surprises, and even tough moments teaches them to adapt, enjoy the journey, and handle challenges.

4. I stopped buying every souvenir – Life is full of trade-offs. With a set budget, they make choices about what’s worth getting. We focus on experiences first, but they also learn to prioritize what matters most to them.

5. I stopped looking for “kid-friendly” destinations – I realized any destination can be family-friendly if we approach it with curiosity and an open mind. Exposure to different cultures, foods, and environments builds adaptability and confidence.

6. I let them see my imperfections and struggles – I don’t hide that I get tired, frustrated, or unsure. Modeling resilience and honesty shows them that struggles are normal—and they can still navigate the world confidently.

7. I stopped keeping them in their comfort zone – Each day, I encourage them to do one thing that stretches them: using a phrase in another language, asking for something at the hotel, asking questions at activities, or trying a new food. Small risks like these build courage and adaptability, step by step.

I get the hype now… and wow. This might be the c I get the hype now… and wow. This might be the closest you’ll ever get to Hogwarts in real life ⚡️.

We spent over 5 hours inside the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter and honestly could have stayed even longer. From interactive moments that make you feel like you’re actually at Hogwarts, to behind-the-scenes film magic you’ve never seen before—this experience is next level immersive.

The attention to detail is unreal (and yes… Quidditch hits different after this 👀).

About halfway through, don’t skip the Butterbeer and Harry Potter treats stop—it’s the perfect little break to refuel and soak it all in.

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, this is a 100% must-do in Tokyo.

💬 Comment “Potter” and I’ll send you the ticket link ⚡️.

If you’re in Osaka, don’t miss Katsuo-ji Templ If you’re in Osaka, don’t miss Katsuo-ji Temple.

Tucked into the hills about an hour outside the city, this temple is filled with thousands of red Daruma dolls—watching over the grounds in the most magical way.

The Daruma aren’t just cute decorations… they’re symbols of luck, perseverance, and goal-setting. Here’s the ritual: when you make a wish or set a goal, you paint in one eye. Once your wish comes true, you return and paint in the second eye as a thank you.

It’s such a simple ritual, but it hits differently when you’re standing there surrounded by so many hopes and dreams from other visitors.

You also get a blank postcard at the entrance and can collect stamps at six stations around the temple—changing with the seasons, making your souvenir completely unique every time.

A peaceful little reminder to keep going… and to believe in your goals. 🥹✨

✨How to get there from Osaka:
▪️Take the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line toward Minoh-Kayano (make sure your train goes to the final stop)
▪️From there, transfer to a Hankyu Bus directly to the temple
▪️Total travel time: about 1 hour

Here’s what nobody tells you about @shibuya_sky Here’s what nobody tells you about @shibuya_sky 👀…

It’s one of those hyped viewpoints that is actually worth it ✨.

It’s not just a viewpoint… it’s a whole experience.

You step onto the escalator in broad daylight—and as you watch daylight melt away, the city starts to glow. Neon lights flicker on, the sky softens, and suddenly you’re watching Tokyo transform right in front of you.

But here’s the part people don’t talk about:
✔️ You’ll want more time than you think (sunset hits fast)
✔️ It gets busy—like really busy—so timing matters
✔️ The wind up there? No joke. Secure the hats and flowy dresses.
✔️ Tickets open a couple weeks in advance—snag them early!
✔️ Adult tickets must be purchased online. For kids 12 and under, buy their tickets in person at customer service on the day of your visit—just show your proof of adult tickets. This seemed weird to us since tickets are shown as “sold out” …but it worked.
✔️ Book a slot before sunset so you get both day + night views.
✔️ Even if it’s cloudy, the views are still spectacular.
✔️ You can only bring your phone or a camera that fits in your pocket or has a strap up to the deck. Everything else must be stashed in lockers on the 46th floor—no stress, just views 😎📸.

And somehow, even with the crowds… it still feels like one of those “wow, I’m really here” moments.

✨ Pro tip: Arrive early and stay past dark. That’s when the magic really happens ✨

We weren’t sure if this was going to be a total We weren’t sure if this was going to be a total gimmick…

…but we stayed at a hotel in Tokyo where DINOSAURS check you in 🦖.

At Henn na Hotel, animatronic dinos run the front desk, there’s a little robot in your room, and a hotel shuttle drops you off a few minute walk from Tokyo Disney 👀.

Real talk though:
✔️ The dinosaurs are more “museum exhibit” than Jurassic Park… but still SO fun
✔️ Rooms are pretty basic (even the “theme” rooms)
✔️ Breakfast wasn’t our favourite… but the kids making ice cream sundaes at breakfast? 10/10 🍦

Honestly, it’s not luxury—but it’s one of those stays you’ll look back on and giggle.

And sometimes… that’s the whole point.

Would you stay here or skip it? 😂

We skipped the usual Easter plans and did this ins We skipped the usual Easter plans and did this instead 🐣🌸.

Today we spent the day at Taves Family Farms. The kids took on the Treat Pass, running from stop to stop collecting goodies, hunting for eggs, and fully burning off all that Easter energy.

There were animals to cuddle, space to run, and just enough chaos to make it fun.
We took breaks for some festive treats (and let’s be real—those snacks hit 😌), and somehow everyone stayed happy the whole time… which feels like a win in itself.

No big production, no stress—just fresh air, busy kids, and a really good family day.

We wanted tournament tickets, but they sell out FAST — and we needed SIX for a specific day! The website kept crashing …and then we were out of luck 😢. Next time!

Instead, we tried a sumo show… and it was even better than we expected.

From bento boxes and Japanese storytelling to electrifying matches and the chance to step into the ring (we entered the lottery… but didn’t win 😅), this experience brings sumo to life like never before.

The night also ends with having a quick photo with the wrestlers.

I thought this would be totally overrated… but I LOVED it! 🤩

There are a few tour options, but I wanted to drive through Shibuya Crossing—what an experience!

You can also take a night tour for a completely different vibe, but I went for an afternoon tour since it fit best with our schedule.

Need to know:

✅ Must have a valid driver’s license + international permit
✅ Ride footage allowed if camera is attached to you.
✅ Phones/cameras can only be used with your hands at red lights - no distracted driving!
✅ Tour guide snaps photos for you and sends a download link

This immersive digital art museum completely blew This immersive digital art museum completely blew us away. The creativity and brilliance behind each @teamlab exhibit are next-level — it’s hard to put into words, you just have to see it to believe it.

Simply… WOW. 🤯 🤯✨

Every room is a new world full of color, movement, and pure magic.

✨Some of our favorites:

▪️Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers – lie down or sit still and feel your body dissolve into the artwork. Walking around? Equally trippy.
▪️Athletics Forest – bouncing spheres spinning everywhere… so much fun for kids (and adults!).
▪️Sketch Umwelt World – draw something, and watch it come to life right before your eyes.
▪️Catching and Collecting Extinct Forest – giant animals surround you, and with the app, you can catch and release them as they vanish and reappear across the space.
▪️Drawing on the Water Surface – koi swim across a water surface that stretches into infinity. Step in, and their movement reacts to you and other koi. When they collide with you, they bloom into flowers that change with the seasons — pure living art.

✨All exhibits are created and copyrighted by the art collective teamLab, making this a one-of-a-kind experience.

✨Things to know before you go:
▪️Book tickets in advance — it fills up fast
▪️Roll up your pants for the water exhibits
▪️Wearing a dress/skirt? Shorts underneath are a must!
▪️Plan for 3–4 hours… but you could easily spend most of the day exploring
▪️Go early to beat the crowds

Every corner sparks awe, curiosity, and that childlike wonder we all need. Truly unforgettable. ✨

Everything you need to know about renting a kimono Everything you need to know about renting a kimono in Japan 🇯🇵✨

Wearing a kimono in Japan isn’t just dressing up—it’s stepping into centuries of tradition. Here’s what to know before your experience:

1️⃣ Colors & patterns
There are so many options, it can feel overwhelming! Think about your colors and patterns ahead of time—it makes picking your kimono much easier.

2️⃣ Hair styling & accessories
For the girls, make sure hair styling is included—it completes the look! You can also choose a matching purse, and the traditional sandals (zori) complete the outfit.

3️⃣ Comfort, movement & walking
The sandals WILL start to hurt after a while. Bring backup shoes if you plan to walk a lot. Kimonos don’t have pockets, so keep your essentials in your purse/bag, and remember—you won’t have the same range of motion as your usual clothes, so move carefully. Watch your steps on uneven streets!

4️⃣ Timing & service
Use the earliest time slot for the best selection and to make the most of your day. For our group of six, it took about two hours to get everyone dressed, but the lady who dressed us was FANTASTIC—so patient, kind, and skilled! Most rentals require returning the kimono by 5 PM, and they’ll help you take all the layers off.

5️⃣ Kimono insurance & payment
Consider purchasing insurance—fines can be hefty if the kimono gets stained or damaged. Carefully choose what you eat while wearing it!

6️⃣ Weather & preparedness
Kimonos are delicate fabrics—be prepared with umbrellas if rain is expected.

7️⃣ Respect local rules
Follow temple and shrine rules, AND respect any signage that says no photography.

Exploring Gion in our kimonos was magical 💛. The kids were curious, excited, and we shared in that wonder together.

Travel hacks that should never exist 😳✈️ 1 Travel hacks that should never exist 😳✈️

1️⃣ Washing underwear in the hotel coffee machine - Yes, apparently people do this. Your delicates + someone else’s morning coffee = biohazard barista energy 🤮. ✅ Do this instead: hand wash in the bathroom, use laundry facilities, or pack enough underwear. Coffee makers are for coffee.

2️⃣ The “layover hack” (skip-lagging your flight)- Booking a cheaper flight with a layover where you actually want to go — and then skipping the final leg. Sounds smart… until your return gets cancelled, points are lost, or your account is flagged. ✅ Do this instead: search one-way tickets, check nearby airports, set price alerts, or use points strategically.

3️⃣ Buckling your seatbelt around your ankles so you can curl up - Legs on the seat, belt around ankles, head on knees. Cozy, yes. Safe, no. Seatbelts are designed to sit low on your hip bones — if turbulence hits, you risk slamming forward, whipping upward, or crushing your spine. ✅ Do this instead: keep the belt low across hips at all times. Find safer ways to become more comfortable.

💥 If your travel hack involves bodily fluids, breaking airline rules, or defeating physics… it’s not a hack. It’s a bad idea.

There’s something magical about seeing a city before it fully wakes up. 🌅 London in the early morning feels almost like a secret—Tower Bridge, usually buzzing with tourists and traffic, is quiet, peaceful, and completely photogenic.

At 7am on the summer morning, there were barely any pedestrians, the iconic bridge was temporarily closed to vehicles, and the whole scene felt like it belonged only to us. That’s the beauty of rising early when you travel—you get to experience popular spots in a way most people never see.

It’s not just about the photos (though yes, the light is incredible!)—it’s about the feeling of having space, time, and the city to yourself. Watching London slowly wake up from this calm, quiet perspective is an experience I’ll never forget.

❓Are you a sunrise explorer, or do you hit snooze until the crowds arrive?
