The trails at Bannock Point lead to scenic bluffs overlooking Slocan Lake. It is a popular place to stay the night at the backcountry campground. We just wandered the 5.36km (out and back) Bannock Point Lookout Trail with mossy forest, wide viewpoints, and the Valhallas soaring high above the water.
There is some pretty incredible scenery overlooking Slocan Lake. When you get a rewarding view after rewarding view during the hike, it definitely makes all the hard work worth it. We could have sat up there for hours taking in all the scenery. We also passed very few people on the trail, so it was especially peaceful as we took our time taking it all in.
Overall, the Bannock Point Lookout Trail was a gorgeous trail that was not too strenuous. There are some drop offs, but as long as you keep yourself and the kids on the path, they should stay safe. My kids were even wowed by the scenery around them.
Take a look at how beautiful this trail is:
Do be mindful with kids — there are some drop-offs!
How To Get There
The trail is located just south of Silverton (a short 10 minute drive from New Denver). Turn off the highway at the “Bannock Point Trail” sign. Drive through the gravel pit into the forest 100m, where you will find parking area and map and further information. Trails from here go to Bannock Point campground and Bannock Lookout Trail.
