We were sad to learn that Liberty Island was closed for renovations while we were visiting New York back in November of 2012.
However, we found a suitable substitute that would allow us to feel like we were able to get a great view of the Statue Of Liberty: taking a Statue of Liberty Harbor tour with Statue Cruises. It was a cold day to be on the boat, but the 60-minute tour that departed from Battery Park in Downtown Manhattan was still enjoyable as we learned more about New York than we could have imagined we would.
The tour pointed out sights that the area is known for, and describes its fascinating history. The most notable sights we saw were: the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the World Trade Center and Brooklyn Bridge.
The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States. The statue has become a universal symbol of hope, freedom and democracy.
Have you had the chance to visit the Statue of Liberty in New York? What did you think?
