Take A Trip Around The World At Vancouver’s Christmas Glow

Last Updated on October 17, 2020

It was a real treat to be able to step inside from the pouring rain and to be able to enjoy the Christmas spirit, warmth and the twinkle of a million lights. Christmas Glow is Greater Vancouver’s largest indoor Christmas festival featuring 95,000 square feet of lighted sculptures, interactive activities, live entertainment, food trucks, and a Christmas market.

We fell in love with Glow last year when it was half the size and even went to the new Harvest Glow this Fall. We were so impressed with the family fun that we were delighted when we were invited back to experience Christmas Glow this year, bigger and brighter, for its second year.

This year, you’ll be taken on a trip around the world through six countries: Mexico, China, France, Holland, the UK and India. Famous landmarks twinkled beautifully, such as the Eiffel Tower, Windmills, Chichén Itzá ruins, the Taj Mahal and popular streetscapes. You could collect a passport stamp after visiting each ‘country’ and get a candy cane at the end. This was a huge hit with the kids and really added to the fun. It also gave us an opportunity to show the kids some of “what we saw” in some travels that we did before we were married with kids.  It was a fantastic visual to get the kids asking questions about the different countries and I think now they expect to go to Paris.

You’ll also find some traditional twinkling decor, can take a photo in Santa’s sleigh, take a swing in giant LED swings, jump around at hopscotch that changes color as you touch each circle, smile in decorated frames for photos and selfies, say choo-choo in Glen the GLOW-comotive train, take a photo with Santa, wander a garden center full of Poinsettias and a have a drink at the bar for the “big kids” while your kids enjoy a signature glow drink in a plastic lightbulb glass (that also lights up). We even found Cinderella and Belle wandering around ready to smile for photos.

Take a look at some of the amazing lights you’ll wander in awe at Christmas Glow:

Madison was the only one that would take a photo with Santa. We arrived at Glow for opening, so Santa was wandering around greeting everyone and ready to smile before he was even in his chair. He was lovely!

Update: We made it back to Glow after Christmas for some more fun! It was neat to see how they utilized some empty space, like where they had Santa visits before Christmas. They brought in some carnival games that were free to play and winners received a Quatchi (Vancouver Olympics 2010 Mascot) stuffed animal. After much hard work, we managed to win one for each of the kids. Yay – no fighting over one Quatchi! The carnival games included Bowlee Roller, shooting water guns to pop balloons and whack-a-mole.
