Shibuya (Shibuya Annex) – 1 Hour

This is the route I picked—and it did not disappoint.

Take a spin through central Tokyo as your kart adventure kicks off in Dogenzaka, where neon signs and bustling crowds set the scene. Zoom through the legendary Shibuya Scramble, soaking in the city’s electric energy from every angle. Glide along the chic streets of Omotesando for a stylish contrast before diving into the colorful, energetic world of Harajuku. This tour is thrilling, visually stunning, and impossible to forget.

Driving across Shibuya Crossing is something else entirely—the lights, the crowds, the pulse of the city—it’s a moment that only hits when you’re right there in the middle of it.

Shinagawa – 1 Hour

This route begins near Shinagawa Station and takes you through central Tokyo toward Tokyo Tower, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. It’s a great mix of urban driving and sightseeing, with a strong “classic Tokyo” feel.

Asakusa Akihabara (Route 1) – 1 Hour

Drive through the heart of Tokyo on this scenic route. Starting from the Akihabara store, cruise through the bustling streets of Japan’s tech and anime mecca. Pass by the historic Tokyo Station before heading to Ginza, known for its upscale shops and vibrant city life. The route loops back to Akihabara, offering a dynamic blend of Tokyo’s modern energy and traditional charm.

Akihabara (Route 2) – 1 Hour

Explore central Tokyo on this lively 1-hour tour. Osaka – 1 Hour

In Osaka, the route takes you through America-mura (a trendy, youth-focused district), through the busy Shinsaibashi shopping area, and into Dotonbori—famous for its neon lights and over-the-top signage.

Okinawa – 1 Hour

This route offers a completely different experience. You’ll drive near Naha Airport with ocean views before heading into Kokusai Street, Okinawa’s main shopping and entertainment area.

Day vs Night Tours

There are different times of day available, and each offers a totally different vibe.

I chose a daytime tour, simply because it fit best into my schedule—and honestly, I loved being able to clearly see everything around me.

That said, night tours would bring a completely different energy with Tokyo’s neon lights fully lit up. You really can’t go wrong—it just depends on your vibe. Daytime slots are easier to get and night slots sell out farther in advance.

What To Expect On A Street Kart Tour

1. Check-In & Vehicle Instruction

Your tour begins with vehicle assignment and instructions on operating the go-kart safely. The guide will explain traffic rules, speed limits, and how to handle intersections.

2. Driving Through Tokyo

Tours typically take you through popular neighborhoods. You’ll see Tokyo from a perspective almost no other tourist experiences: up close, in motion, and fully immersed in the city streets.

3. Optional Costume Fun

You can wear an action camera for a POV video of the streets zipping by. And worth repeating again, phones and cameras may only be touched at red lights, so you can pause for photos safely without risking an accident. Your tour guide will also take photos of you at red lights and send you a download link after the tour. Even if you don’t capture much yourself, you’ll still walk away with a handful of shots of the experience.

5. End Of Tour

After 1 hour of city driving, you’ll return to the rental office, drop off the vehicle, and have a chance to review photos of your ride.

Book in Advance: Tours fill up quickly, especially on weekends. Reserve online to secure your preferred time.
Bring Your Licenses: A valid driver’s license and international driver’s license are mandatory.
Dress Comfortably: Costumes are fun, but wear comfortable clothing underneath and closed-toe shoes.
Use Cameras Wisely: Only use phones when stopped at a red light or you WILL get a ticket. Action cameras (attached to you) are the safest way to record your ride. No holding devices to film while actively driving.
Follow All Rules: Speed limits, red lights, and guide instructions are strictly enforced for safety.

Insurance: Don’t Skip This Detail

Basic insurance is included in your tour, but it comes with a catch.

If the kart is damaged—whether from a scratch, bump, or accident—you may be responsible for a deductible of up to 50,000 JPY per kart.

There’s an option to upgrade to a full coverage plan for an additional fee, which many people choose for peace of mind. Definitely something to consider before heading out.

Each kart is single driver only—no passengers
One guide leads a maximum of 6 drivers per group.
Larger groups will be split into smaller groups and staggered slightly for safety
