How Do Rail Bike Adventures Work?

Rail bikes depart as a cohesive unit, accompanied by tour leaders ensuring safety at the front and back. Passing is not possible (colliding with the bike ahead is not permitted), and the pedaling rhythm is established by the lead guide at a pleasant and unhurried pace. A hand signal needs to be used if you are slowing down to alert the riders behind you.

At a designated turnaround point, guests disembark while the guides expertly reverse the direction of each railbike on the track. This ensures a seamless experience where railbikes face the opposite way, ready for the next leg of the journey.

There is a seating area with picnic tables where you can relax, have a snack, and enjoy the farmland views, while the guides work to spin the rail bikes for the journey back.

Each group will be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide trained in rail operations. These guides not only ensure a safe crossing of public roadways but also assist in smoothly turning the cycles at the halfway point for the return trip.

How Much Does A Rail Cycle Trip Cost?

Rail Cycles are allocated per cycle rather than per seat. The current pricing (summer 2023) for a rail cycle with four seats is $161.25, with three seats is $120.00, and two seats is $86.00. This makes the adventure perfect for families or groups. Each rider must have their own seat. Buy your tickets HERE.

Is Rail Biking For Everyone?

Yes, with a caveat. There is a 300-pound weight limit per rider. The rail cycles boast robust bucket-style seats that offer a comfortable ride for the majority of riders. In addition to that, it is suitable for individuals of all ages, regardless of their level of fitness. However, it is recommended that everyone possesses at least a minimum level of fitness to pedal a bike for approximately 30 minutes without experiencing exhaustion.

This activity caters to a wide range of individuals, accommodating both the young and the old, as well as those who are physically active and those who are less active.

As a team, everyone pedals together, but if one person becomes fatigued or wishes to capture a moment in a photo, taking a break is effortless. Simply cease pedaling while the rest continue to propel the wheels forward.

How Old Do Kids Have To Be To Ride?

Families are welcome! There is no minimum age limit for rail cycles with Rail Cycle Mr. Rainier, making it the perfect opportunity to create lasting memories with the whole family. Bring the kids along and embark on an unforgettable experience together. Children less than 25-lbs can ride with an adult using a front-style harness or carrier, provided that the parents can securely fasten their seatbelt.

Children who can sit up independently should have their own seat and use seatbelts. Parents (and kiddos) seeking extra security can opt for special 5-point harnesses. While not all children may reach the pedals, they will undoubtedly delight in the journey. Children must occupy their own seats during the ride and are not allowed to sit on an adult’s lap.

What About Bad Weather?

Rail cycles run rain or shine, unless weather appears particularly dangerous or imminent. Rail cycling is enjoyable in almost all conditions as long as riders dress according to the weather. Rail cycle guides will delay departures, or at times, cancel departures if weather poses a risk.
